Our Story

Our history tells an incredible story of how God can keep His truth alive in a changing world when there are willing people with a vision…..

Springhill Baptist Church began around 1860 under a bush harbor.  Later, a public schoolhouse was built and named Tigue School.  The members soon began holding church services in the schoolhouse.  The school was later named Springhill.
Springhill was moved from down by the bottom cemetery in 1917.  In 1954 it was moved to the site that burned in 1971, which is where the top cemetery is today.  After the fire in 1971, we held church at a Shiloh M B Church until our new church was built in 1972.  In 2003 Springhill moved into the fourth and present church building Walker and we now use the third church that was built as the fellowship hall.  During this time Springhill church’s name was changed to Springhill Pope.
In May 2017 the mortgage for the present sanctuary was paid off.  We Had Mortgage Burning during our Church Anniversary Program on August 13, 2017.  In September 2017 a metal roof was installed on the church and in 2018 stripes were done in the parking lot and handicap signs were installed.
We stand firm on his motto: We are not all Preachers, but we are all Reachers.
March 2020 services were shut down because of COVID-19.  While we were attending Virtual Services.
In September 2020 we started having in-house and virtual services.  From January 2021 and the beginning of 2022, there were no services at Springhill Pope due to COVID-19.  During this time Online Prayer Services were carried out on Wednesday nights. In March 2022 our church reopened.
Bless this house O Lord we pray, make it safe by night and day!!!!!!!
As we look back upon these past 162 years, we see David’s advice to Solomon taken seriously, as in 1860 the Word is being fulfilled…to be strong and of good courage and to do it.  At times we have been tempted to fear, even to be dismayed, but the church found God faithful.  God has not failed nor forsaken us.  God has done it.  Springhill has not labored in vain, and God has built His church.
1 Chronicles 28:20…Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, will be with you.  He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.

Learn from the Past…..Rejoice in the Present…..Hope for the Future
